Loud Hits: Betts, Castellanos, Seager, Judge Highlight Our Batting Leaderboards

By: Stats Perform

Now a Cincinnati Red, Nick Castellanos has picked up where he left off last season with the Chicago Cubs.

After hitting .321 with 16 home runs and 21 doubles in just 51 games after getting traded to Chicago at the 2019 trade deadline, the veteran outfielder leads the majors (heading into Thursday’s action) with a 1.325 OPS. He also ranks third in all of baseball with a 1.055 OPS since Aug. 1, 2019, among those with 200 at-bats. As a result, Castellanos tops MLB in BIP+ and ranks second in Raw Value+ in this week’s hitting leaderboards.

Each week throughout this 60-game sprint of a season, we’ll reveal MLB’s offensive leaders in RV+, BIP+, Contact+ and Discipline+. Corey Seager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees are also rivaling Castellanos atop the RV+ and BIP+ leaderboards with hot starts.

Mookie Betts was making frequent contact at an elite level before suffering a finger injury that has kept him out of the lineup this week. With the Boston Red Sox in 2019, Betts hit .295 with 29 homers and finished in the 94th percentile among batters who faced at least 2,000 pitches with a 157 RV+.

So without further ado, here are Stats Perform’s hitting leaders two weeks into the season (minimum 30 plate appearances to qualify):
