How Opta Helped Czech League Double Their Online Fan Engagement and Grow TV Audiences

Discover how the LFA used official Opta data to fuel richer storytelling, boost fan engagement, and attract new audiences across digital and broadcast platforms

By: Stats Perform

The Czech Football League Association (LFA) oversees the country’s top two football tiers. As demand for data-driven content intensified across media and betting markets, the LFA recognised the need for a single, trusted source of official match data – not only to deliver speed and accuracy, but to empower clubs, broadcasters, and digital teams to tell richer, more engaging stories that deepen fandom and unlock new commercial opportunities.

In Opta, the LFA found a partner offering low-latency match data coupled with visually compelling insights for more captivating storytelling across broadcast, print and online platforms.

The Challenge

To modernise its content production and data infrastructure, the LFA faced several key challenges:

  • How to unify data sources to ensure consistency and trust across LFA-owned channels, its broadcaster, media outlets and betting operators
  • How to increase and elevate the Czech league’s digital and broadcast content output to meet the demands of their fans and stakeholders
  • How to provide media officers at clubs with a reliable source of live data and insights to power more compelling matchday and social media content, in real time
  • How to go beyond static tables to create new and engaging content formats that attract and retain attention from casual fans and die-hard supporters

The Solution

In June 2024, the LFA selected Stats Perform as its official media data supplier, covering all 16 clubs in the Czech top division. This partnership enabled:

  • Low-latency, live Opta data feeds to elevate league and club-owned channels
  • Dynamic visualisations and in-game insights to grow viewers via Opta Live
  • Innovative new content formats – such as quizzes – for matchdays and fan engagement
  • Enhanced editorial storytelling through the support of the Opta Data Insights Team

The Results

“Partnering with Stats Perform and integrating official Opta data has been a crucial step forward in how we serve our fans, media, and clubs. We have been collecting data in the past but now it’s not just about numbers: it’s about turning data into stories, moments, and experiences that elevate Chance Liga’s visibility and deepen emotional connections with fans. By choosing Opta, we’ve positioned ourselves as a progressive, data-driven competition, ready to compete with Europe’s most digitally advanced leagues.

– Martin Šrámek, Business Development Manager at LFA

While Opta was one part of the LFA’s broader modernisation strategy, its positive impact was immediate and measurable – particularly across social media and broadcast audiences during the 2024/25 season:

Chance Liga Social Media Accounts (Season-on-Season Growth):

Instagram

    •  Reach: 1.3 million (+119%)

    •  Interactions: 1.9 million (+100%)

Facebook

    •  Impressions: 74.1 million (+165%)

Broadcast:

    •  Average TV viewership of Chance Liga rose by 9% year-over-year, attracting 2.6 milion more viewers compared to the previous season.

    •  Chance Liga was the most-watched competition in Czechia, surpassing other European leagues and the Champions League.

    •  The availability of low-latency data empowered OnePlay, the official broadcaster, to launch a dedicated Opta channel with a live data screen – a unique innovation in Central Europe.

The Conclusion

The Czech LFA’s partnership with Stats Perform demonstrates how official data and live insights can instantly and dramatically enhance a league’s digital reach and fan engagement. By choosing Opta over existing solutions, the LFA positioned itself as a progressive, data-driven competition ready to compete with Europe’s most innovative leagues.
