OptaJoe’s 15th Birthday Quiz 2024

Quizzing, cake and a penalty shootout? Find out what went down in the 14th edition of the world famous quiz.

By: Ben Jermy

Last week saw the hotly anticipated return of the OptaJoe quiz. The 14th edition of the quiz, and a very special one as we celebrated OptaJoe’s 15th birthday—62 thousand posts and 1.3 million followers later, and still going strong. The showpiece brought the greatest quizzing minds in the football media and betting space to Stamford Bridge to take on the hardest football quiz in the world.

The competition was fierce and you could cut the tension (and the birthday cake) with a knife as our hosts Jonny and Siobhan revealed that we had not one, but two tie-breaks to decide the final podium places. The Athletic and The Times went toe to toe first, with each team guessing the attendance of the 2012 Champions League final. The Athletic were closest and so took home the third place trophy.

The final showdown. A quizzing penalty shootout.

Then, in an OptaJoe quiz first we witnessed a quizzing penalty shootout for the ages, TNT Sports Stats vs Sky Sports Stats. The juggernauts of the OptaJoe quiz both sent a champion to join the hosts on stage and took turns naming the starting line-ups for the 2012 Champions League final. Both players completed the first 5 rounds without breaking a sweat taking the shootout to sudden death. It took 13 rounds to break the stalemate, but eventually, Sky Sports Stats emerged victorious.

Our winners for the 6th time, congratulations to the Sky Sports Stats team.

Congratulations to the Sky Sports Stats team and thank you to all the teams who participated in this year’s quiz. Lastly, thank you to the quiz master general Tom Ede for putting it all together.
