Bundesliga season review published

By: Andy Cooper

In this season review, OptaPro look back and analyse the standout performances from the 18/19 Bundesliga campaign.

The review features detailed player analysis, with key advanced metrics ranked across different positions. Exploration of playing styles alongside showcasing key metrics, OptaPro provide interesting insights in and out of possession, at both team and individual level.

Key findings include:

-Borussia Dortmund converted 63 goals from open play, nearly 14 more goals than their xG output would have projected. No other side overperformed this significantly in this metric.

-Seven teams conceded more than 10 goals from set plays. FC Augsburg leaked the most amount of goals (17) from an xG output of 12.58, the second highest value in the league behind only Hertha BSC.

-RB Leipzig were the most direct team in the top five, averaging a direct speed of 2.25m/s, the highest across the entire division.

-Goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi conceded 12 goals fewer than his xGOT output would suggest, placing him top of the rankings.

-Borussia Dortmund players Jadon Sancho, Paco Alcácer and Marco Reus occupy the top three positions for their involvement in build-up play.
